Tor Download Manager v0.2.1 – Release Notes

We’re excited to announce the release of a new version (v0.2.1) of Tor Download Manager.

What’s new in this release

Linux, Windows and macOS support

With this release, we are targeting three platforms: Linux, Windows, and macOS. Simply download, make it executable, and run. No installation required!

System requirements:

  • Windows: Windows 10 or later. Older TDM versions run on Windows 8 and 8.1; however, the 0.2.x branch does not support Windows 8.x. According to Microsoft’s lifecycle records, Windows 8.1 officially reached end of support on January 10, 2023. It is strongly recommended to avoid using operating systems that no longer receive updates, especially if you are trying to keep your online activity secure and private.
  • Linux: supported 64-bit distributions.
  • macOS: supported 64-bit versions.

Refactor usingTORProxy function to verify Tor connection

We have enhanced this function to verify that traffic is really flowing through Tor and to ensure that name resolution (DNS) never touches the clearnet.

Remove external hyperlink from About dialog

Remove the clickable hyperlink markup from the copyright line. While this is not a real leak, removing it eliminates any chance of accidentally routing users to the clearnet through an unproxied default system browser, which is consistent with this app’s Tor-first design.
